The Northern Bear Awareness Society would not exist without volunteers. If you would like to help your community reduce human bear conflicts by donating your time and skills, there are several opportunities available. Opportunities can be short term (a couple of hours) or more consistent.
Mailbox Brochure Delivery
We always have a list of neighbourhoods that could benefit from receiving our informative brochures. Perhaps you feel that your street is one of these! All you have to do is choose a nice day for a walk and deliver them to mailboxes, and be prepared to chat with people who may ask for more information.
Door-to-door Education
If you are interested in speaking with people in high-risk neighbourhoods, and helping them to properly manage their bear attractants, this may be the job for you.
Garbage Audit
Help raise awareness by putting “Bear Attractant” signs on garbage cans left out overnight to raise awareness of garbage and bears.
Event Booth Attendants
Northern Bear Awareness participates in several festivals and events during the year. If you enjoy talking with people, we'd be happy to have you help out at our display.
Other Jobs
There is always a need for help with odd jobs such as updating our website, helping with fundraisers, picking apples, or pitching in with special projects.
Training Provided
All volunteers receive training and a volunteer manual.
Our first scheduled volunteer orientation session of 2021 will be held on Wednesday, July 21 from 5:30-6:30 pm, at the Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum. We will teach you about bears in our region, how human/bear conflicts arise, and how to prevent them. You'll also get some tips for helping others to understand that we all need to take responsibility for managing bear attractants. Please fill out the form below to sign up for a volunteer orientation session.
