The Northern Bear Awareness Society is run by a Board of Directors comprised of individuals who are passionate about our mission. Some of us have been involved with the society for more than a decade, while others are brand new. Either way, we all share the desire to help residents of Prince George keep bears top-of-mind so that proactive measures can be taken to prevent human-bear conflict in our city.
We meet monthly, on the third Tuesday evening of each month. In 2023, our board consists of 8 people. Some are very active, regular contributors, while others help out when they can. We welcome anyone who would like to be involved in whatever capacity they can give.
Everything we do relies on volunteer effort. The only exception is in years when we have hired summer students through Canada Summer Jobs. In 2023 we were approved for funding to hire two summer staff for 8 weeks of full time work, providing educational presentations, setting up our display booth at events, and working on all the various other projects we run.
