The Northern Bear Awareness Society is run by a Board of Directors comprised of individuals who are passionate about our mission. Some of us have been involved with the society for more than a decade, while others are brand new. Either way, we all share the desire to help residents of Prince George keep bears top-of-mind so that proactive measures can be taken to prevent human-bear conflict in our city.
We meet monthly, on the second Monday evening of each month. We welcome anyone who would like to be involved in whatever capacity they can give. In 2022, our board consists of ten people. Some are very active, regular contributors, while others help out when they can.
Everything we do relies on volunteer effort. The only exception is in years when we have hired summer students through Canada Summer Jobs. The last time we did this was in 2018. In 2022 we have been approved for funding to hire two students for 7 weeks of full time work. The students will be providing educational presentations, setting up our display booth at events, and working on all the various other projects we run.
