Northern Bear Awareness |
To reduce conflict in neighbourhoods between people and bears through education, innovation and cooperation. |
Programs like Northern Bear Awareness would not exist without volunteers. If you would like to help your community reduce bear-human conflicts by donating your time and skills, there are several opportunities available. Opportunities can be short term (a couple of hours) or more consistent. |
If you are interested in spending an hour or two a week canvassing neighbourhoods and speaking to people in high-risk areas, please call us! We’ll get together, decide which areas need to be visited and get out there. |
Do you like to speak in public? Northern Bear Awareness participates in several festivals and events during the year and is always looking for volunteers to help at the display. |
All volunteers receive training and a volunteer manual. |
Would you like to receive fruit? Do you have excess fruit you do not need? Volunteer to help with the Fruit Exchange program and help distribute fall fruit to people in the community instead of letting it attract bears. |
Do you know your garbage zones? Do you know someone who puts their garbage at the curb the night before pickup? We’ll go out in groups in the wee hours and put “Bear Attractant” signs on garbage cans left out overnight to raise awareness of garbage and bears. |
